  • How are the Environmental Studies and Animal Science curriculum implemented?
    Classrooms across the campus will infuse their learning with Environmental Studies and Animal Sciences while also engaging students through Dowdell’s electives that take the classroom outside—allowing students to work creatively and focus on opportunities that make a positive impact on the world around us.

    Dowdell students will become prepared to continue their learning at Magnet Programs such as those found at Tampa Bay Tech, Jefferson, Middleton and more!

    Which classes will have the Environmental Studies and Animal Science curriculum?
    The core classes (English-Language Arts, Mathematics, Science and Social Studies) and the elective courses are infused with the Environmental Studies and Animal Science curriculum.

    What other programs will be offered?
    Through Electives, our students sample a range of exciting courses—engaging in Business Technology, Band, AVID college readiness and more. 

    Additionally, we offer Scholar Quest high school credit courses in Algebra, Environmental and Physical Science, Agriscience, Agriculture and Digital Information Technology.

    How are students selected for Environmental Studies and Animal Science programs at Dowdell Middle Magnet?
    Students from outside the Dowdell Middle Magnet attendance area can apply to the Environmental Studies and Animal Science programs at Dowdell Middle Magnet. Applicants will be selected by lottery based on available space. 

    How do I apply?
    Apply through the School Choice application process at HillsboroughSchools.org/choice. Applicants will be selected by a computer lottery.

    Is transportation provided?
    Bus transportation is available to all students eligible for transportation under Florida law and school district policy.
