• 5-2-25 Shark Report

Sharks: Testing continues to ramp up next week with AP and state testing in addition to the AICE tests. I recognize that testing can be an overwhelming time of year, especially when there are questions about where to be and what to do. I appreciate all the folks who are providing feedback, suggestions, and thinking about the impact on students. I see a school full of folks doing their best to keep each day running as smoothly as possible, and these next couple weeks will be a temporary hurdle on our way to the end of the year.

Here are some reminders from last week's faculty meeting:

    - Students will feed off our energy. Remember to stay positive and calm.

    - Classes continue as normal. Thank you for helping me message to students and parents that students should attend classes. There is no school business for times students are not testing.

    - In addition to attendance being taken, continue to plan lessons that engage students in meaningful reviews and wrap up of course content. We must plan intentionally with the knowledge that some students may be absent or testing; however, assigning a packet and giving students open work time, for example, adds to the misconception that students do not have to be in class when not testing. Our SAO staff will continue correcting parents calling for sign outs that lessons are continuing despite their student saying they "aren't doing anything in class."

    - Thank you for being here every day! Our teacher attendance has actually improved as we start testing, and with the largest testing season RVHS has ever faced, your presence has a huge impact every day.

Two more weeks of knocking out tests before we head into semester exams! The end of the year will be here before we know it. Reach out if you need anything. Sharks Attack as One!

    Good evening, Sharks:

This is your principal, Brian Spiro, with this week's Shark Report.

Seniors who have yet to pick up a pre-ordered cap and gown can pick theirs up during lunches on April 30. Any senior wishing to participate in the graduation ceremony must obtain a cap and gown from Jostens by visiting the Jostens Hub. Check out the link in our Sway.

It's that time: Yearbooks are here! Distributions will be Thursday, May 1, for seniors and Friday, May 2, for all underclass students. You can pick up your pre-ordered book during all 3 lunches in the auditorium lobby. Make sure to have an ID in order to pick up!

If you didn't catch the information on lane closures on US 301 and Boyette Road, please refer to specifics posted in our Sway. The Florida Department of Transportation will be closing lanes on US 301 and all of Boyette Road east of 301 for approximately three weeks. Please plan accordingly when traveling in our area, especially during arrival and dismissal times.

Testing continues this week as students in AICE courses continue to sit for these important assessments throughout the week. Next week begins AP and state testing. Classes will continue throughout testing, and students are expected to participate in their regularly scheduled classes when not testing. Classes will continue as normal during and after testing sessions. When planning for sign outs, our office will accept authorization over the phone from 9-10:30 or in-person sign outs until 3pm. Please note that testing in different rooms may end at different times, and students cannot be signed out while testing. Refer to the dates of assessments in our Sway, and thank you for helping our students get to school well-rested and prepared to do their best!

PTSA is distributing prepaid senior yard signs on April 29 and May 5 only from 4-7pm at the main office. These are the only two remaining distribution dates, so please plan accordingly.

As always, see these announcements and other reminders on our Sway. I want to call special attention to Senior Silver Letters. Friday (5/2) is the last day to submit notes of encouragement and congratulations for our Class of 2025 graduates. Folks can submit letters for specific students or general letters so we can make sure all of our graduates have a Silver Letter to congratulate them. See details in the flyer.

Finally, I am pleased to welcome the addition of Mr. Leonel Garcia to our administrative staff. Mr. Garcia starts tomorrow as Assistant Principal of Student Affairs, assigned to students with last names A-F. Mr. Garcia brings with him 8 years of experience teaching social studies and a passion for supporting both teachers and students. Welcome, Mr. Garcia!

That's all for now. Enjoy the rest of your evening, and Go Sharks!
