District Student Selection
The district determines and creates a list of eligible students based on the following criteria:•State test scores in math of 4 or 5 for the prior two years•Have mostly As and Bs in all classes•Student work ethic and desire to work at a rigorous pace should be considered•Other standardized data•Must pass the placement testPlacement Test
•Students on the district-supplied list will be invited to take the placement test.•Secure test. Administered by a Middle School math teacher or AP•Students must score 65% or higher to begin the accelerated program•The assessment will be at the beginning of the summer at Rodgers Middle Magnet School (More details to come)Results
• Mid-June. Parents will receive a letter regarding their child's score. They will have a week to determine if they want their child in the accelerated program and sign the participation contract.Typical Math Progression:
• 6th Grade Math -> 7th Grade Math -> Pre-AlgebraAccelerated Math Progression (for accelerated and Gifted students):
• 6th Grade Accelerated Math -> 7th Grade Accelerated Math (7/8 grade Math Concepts) -> Algebra I HonorsDouble-Accelerated with FLVS Details• To double accelerate through FVLS, students must take 6th Accelerated/Advanced Math before beginning 6th grade. This course includes all 6th-grade benchmarks and half of the 7th-grade benchmarks. Students must take and finish the course before 6th grade to be eligible for double acceleration and ensure all the foundational skills are covered.
• The student will be enrolled in the 7th Accelerated in the Fall as a 6th grader. Half of the 7th and all of the 8th-grade benchmarks are included in this course, and the student will take the Pre-Algebra/8th-grade FAST.
• In 7th grade, the student would take Algebra 1 Honors and, as an 8th grader, Geometry Honors
