Resiliency Characteristics

  • The Resiliency Characteristics are skills that help to guide teachers and parents as we work together to foster resiliency in Florida’s students. Please visit the  Florida Department of Education Resiliency to learn more about each characteristic and explore additional resources.

The K-12 Resiliency Education Standards are organized in four broad areas: character, personal responsibility, mentorship and citizenship, and critical thinking and problem solving.

The 11 Resiliency Characteristics guide parents and teachers as they work to build resiliency in our students. Teachers use the Resiliency Education Standards to teach children how to overcome challenges while recognizing and celebrating success.

K-12 Resiliency Education Standards

  • The K-12 Resiliency Education Standards address life skills that build confidence and enable students to overcome challenges. Teachers use standards to plan the lessons they teach in Florida classrooms every day. These standards are the foundation for resiliency education in Florida. The K-12 Resiliency Education Standards are consistent learning expectations in each grade level, beginning with kindergarten through grade 12. Teachers use standards to plan the lessons they teach in Florida classrooms every day.

Standards and Benchmarks

  • State academic standards are what students learn and should know at each grade level. Benchmarks are a specific expectation for the grade level that falls within the standard.
