The Risk Management and Safety Office, under our Operations division, covers a wide variety of areas, which includes all non-employee insurance such as property, workers compensation, student athletic insurance and other general liability insurance programs. Hillsborough County Public Schools is a special fire district and the risk and safety director serves as the district's Authority Having Jurisdiction (AHJ) for all items related to fire safety.
The office is also responsible for environmental inspections, assessments, transportation and the overall management of safety in the district.
Just as our district has become a statewide leader in security and a statewide leader in academics, we are committed to becoming a statewide leader in student safety.

Resources and Responsibilities
Traffic and Transportation Safety
Assists with traffic in and around schools, liaison with local government agencies for all traffic issues including crossing guards. Interact with various departments and agencies for the safety of bus stops and safe walking for all district schools. Oversees drivers licensing, drug testing and physicals for district drivers.Employee Physicals
Manages all employee physicals and determines when and what type of physical is needed by the physical requirements of the position description.Indoor Air Quality and Hazard Assessment and Environmental
Evaluation for Indoor Air Quality and Hazard Assessments at all district sites. Questions about asbestos, lead based paint, chemicals, chemical removal and hazardous waste can be directed to this department.Inspections
Annual Comprehensive Fire Safety, Casualty and Sanitation Inspections are provided by this office.SDS Genie
Provides a searchable database were all approved chemical Safety Data Sheets are stored in the District in compliance with the Hazcom StandardTraffic and Transportation Safety
